Common Signs Two-Year Deal with HBO

Common has signed a two-year first-look deal in television with HBO.

According to Deadline, the premium cable network has the rights to several projects that will be produced by the rapper through his Freedom Road Productions. Additional details of his upcoming projects have not been released.

The news comes after Common recently received his first scripted pilot order as a producer at Showtime for a Chicago-based drama.

In related news, Common has a slew of acting projects in the works, including roles in Barbershop 3, Suicide Squad, Being Charlie and Hunter Killer. In addition, he has been tapped to play the gatekeeper of Oz in NBC’s upcoming The Wiz Live!
