After starring in The Wiz Live!, Common has landed a role in the Iraq War film Leavey.
According to Variety, the rapper will co-star with Kate Mara in the movie, which follows “Megan Leavey and her military combat dog Rex who saved lives searching for roadside bombs during two tours in Iraq from 2004 to 2006.” Common has signed on to portray Sgt. Massey, the gunnery sergeant in charge of the kennels at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
Production on Leavey is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2016.
Common has a growing list of film projects in the works, including Barbershop: The Next Cut with Ice Cube, Suicide Squad opposite Will Smith and Jared Leto, and the sequel to John Wick 2 alongside Keanu Reeves.
