Ciara Explains How Her Mother Inspired Her New Album Jackie

by

Epic RecordsCiara loves being a new parent, and that is why her new album Jackie is named after her mother.

“The whole inspiration behind the title, naming it after my mom, is that I can now see the world through her eyes,” she tells Rolling Stone. “So with this album, I wanted for my fans to connect with me as it relates to this new chapter in my life. From pre-baby to post-baby, there’s a big difference.”

Ciara’s son Future Zahir Wilburn was born May 19, 2014. She says, “Being a mom is the best thing that has happened in my life… I’ve always wanted to be successful, but having my son is the cherry on top. He makes me go harder, in achieving all that I’ve dreamed of.”

Her baby was named after the father, rapper Future, and the two artists were engaged. However Ciara called off the wedding three months after their son was born. Many believe her album’s first single, “I Bet,” is specifically about her failed relationship. “I was inspired by my life experiences.” Ciara says of the song. “We always have cool conversations in the studio…We talk about real things — whether it’s about my life or a guy’s perspective — and pour that into the song. It’s a song for everyone.”

Jackie will be released May 4, and Ciara kick off her 2015 tour May 3 in Chicago. She’ll perform 18 shows through May 31 in San Francisco.
