Additional casting has been announced for Chinonye Chukwu‘s upcoming film, Till.
Deadline has learned that Frankie Faison, Jayme Lawson, Tosin Cole, Kevin Carroll, Sean Patrick Thomas, John Douglas Thompson and Roger Guenveur Smith have joined the project, which follows Emmett Louis Till‘s mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, and her fight for justice after her 14-year-old son was brutally murdered. They join Danielle Deadwyler, Whoopi Goldberg and Jalyn Hall, who were all previously announced. Till will chronicle Mamie’s decision to allow Jet magazine to publish the open-casket photos at her son’s funeral. In doing so, she ensured “people everywhere saw the true horrors of her son’s murder” which helped usher in the civil rights movement. A release date for Till has yet to be announced.
In other news, Soul Food alum Vanessa Estelle Williams has landed a recurring role on FOX’s hit drama 9-1-1. According to Deadline, Williams’ character of 9-1-1 Call Center veteran Claudette Collins will be introduced on Monday night’s episode. Collins is said to have “transferred back to the main LA station and shows the younger ones… ‘how it’s done.’” 9-1-1, also starring Angela Bassett, airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
Finally, Granville Adams, the actor who played Zahir Arif on HBO’s prison-drama Oz, has died following a long battled with cancer. He was 58 years old. Oz showrunner and executive producer Tom Fontana shared the news in a tribute to Adams on Instagram. “Goodnight, sweet prince/and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest,” Fontana wrote. The news comes after Fontana helped launch a GoFundMe campaign for Adams earlier this year after his “unpaid bills… piled up…” to over $60K.
