Last week, Da Brat was ordered to pay 6.4 million dollars to a woman she attacked with a rum bottle at an Atlanta-area nightclub in 2007. Now, the rapper is speaking out about forking over the hefty sum, which she finds “baffling.”
“I shouldn’t have done what I did. It was wrong. And, the girl definitely deserved some compensation…but $6.4 million? HELL NO!” The rapper said in a video posted on her YouTube page.
Da Brat served nearly three years in prison for the for the attack, which seems to have affected her income. “I don’t know where anybody gon’ get that from. You know, it is what it is. When I start getting it, they’ll get some. Like I said, she deserves something. But 6.4 million? Sh**t.”
The footage also shows Da Brat giving a Skype interview to TMZ, in which she explained that the ruling was a “hell of a shock” and that she was “baffled.” She adds, “I couldn’t say anything about what really happened but I will be telling my story.”
As previously reported, the verdict was reached last Thursday in a civil lawsuit brought by the victim, Shayla Stevens, against Da Brat, who must pay 3.7 million dollars in compensatory damages and 2.7 million dollars in punitive damages.
