Beyonce Named to Celebs Gone Good List for Charitable Efforts

by

Eric McCandless/CBSIn 2014  Beyonce did more than tour all over the world with her husband Jay Z: she also spent a lot of time giving back. The singer appears on this year’s list of the most charitable celebrities, issued annually by the non-profit organization DoSomething.org.

Each year, DoSomething.org, which encourages young people to get involved in social change, releases a list of its top 20 “Celebs Gone Good,” recognizing those stars who use their power for social change and philanthropy.  Beyonce came in at number three on the list, thanks to her various #BeyGOOD campaigns, which aimed to restock clothing donation centers and provided counseling, housing, food and medical assistance to the homeless.

Further down the list is John Legend at #11, because he raised $495,000 dollars for the #OperationGirl Charity Challenge with his “You and I” video. The fundraising campaign benefits charities focused on women and girls.

Taylor Swift sits at #1 this year thanks in part to her donation of all proceeds from the sale of her single “Welcome to New York” to New York City public schools. Other musicians who made the list this year include Miley Cyrus, and Justin Bieber.

DoSomething.org  puts together its list each year based on nominations from the public, the stars’ rankings on IMDB.com and information from a panel of entertainment journalists.
