As a part of her #BeyGood video series, Beyonce requested to meet with 18-year-old James Martin, who recently graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a 3.9 GPA and a degree in Molecular Biology.
The singer captured footage, which was posted on her official YouTube page, of her encounter with the gifted young man during a backstage meet-and-greet at her Philadelphia concert on August 31.
“I wanted you to come here,” Beyonce says to James, “I wanted to shake your hand because I’m so proud of you and it’s just incredible how brilliant you are.”
After providing Martin with an all-access V.I.P. experience, she adds, “I just wanted your family to have a good night. That’s it.” Seemingly speechless, Bey then asks, “How do you do what you do? Just born that way?” James quickly replies, “No, it took a lot of hard work.”
Bey then says, “It’s so rare to see someone and I’m sure you had to work so hard. I just wanted to tell you, to look at you in your face, to tell you how proud I am.”
Later the clip, Martin spills that he was accepted into a Princeton undergraduate research program in molecular biology.
He explains, “I’m going to be working there as a research technician and then hopefully move onto graduate school for my Ph. D… My hopes and dreams are to one day be a researcher, be a professor at a reputable university. And teach on one side, because I love to teach, and still on the other side still have my own research project.”
