Beyonce is known to capture some of the memorable highlights from her Mrs. Carter World Tour on her official website, offering behind-the-scenes glimpses of her background dancers as well as her meet-and-greets with lucky fans. This time, Bey has decided to turn the spotlight on Luke James, who served as the tour opener for the North American leg of her tour over the summer.
In the clip, James recalls how nervous he was performing for such a large audience. “I feel it’s my calling, it’s what I was made to do, I was put here to be heard, to say something, to move people,” he says in the video. But he compares his nerves before hitting huge arena stages ahead of Beyonce to the feeling of “jumping out of the air plane with a parachute,” adding, “you only have one shot at it and it’s gratifying.”
He credits his “willpower and years of dedication” as the things that prepared him to be personally selected by King B. Now that he’s done with the tour, the singer can focus on completing his debut album, Made to Love, due out later this fall release via N.A.R.S. Records and Island Def Jam.
