Beyoncé and Jay Z wrapped up their On the Run tour in Paris this past weekend, and on Monday the pair released on the web the first installment of a trilogy of short films that was shown throughout the tour.
Directed by Dikayl Rimmasch, the nearly three-minute, black-and-white clip is called Bang Bang, Part One. In it, the famous couple channel Bonnie and Clyde as they live their lives on the run. It premiered on the website Nowness.
“In my first conversation on the telephone with Jay Z he explained his concept of On the Run,” Rimmasch said in an interview with Nowness. “He said: ‘We’re not trying to do this literally, it’s not that we’re Bonnie and Clyde. We’re on the run from everything. On the run from becoming a cliché. On the run from doing the same thing again.”
The short film also serves as the trailer for their On the Run HBO special, which premieres Saturday, September 20 at 9 p.m. ET.
