Beyoncé and Jay Z are the two most powerful individuals in the music biz. That’s according to Billboard, which has placed the couple atop its 2014 “Power 100” list.
The list mostly focuses on music executives and others who have exerted a powerful influence on the music industry and on pop culture. One of the major reasons why Beyoncé and Jay Z are ranked first is the buzzworthy manner in which they released albums in 2013.
Jay teamed up with Samsung to release one million free copies of his album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, last summer. And last month, his wife dropped a self-titled album on iTunes, without advance notice.
Some of the names on Billboard‘s list may not be recognizable to the average person. Among the notable individuals: producer and former American Idol mentor Jimmy Iovine, who’s ranked 10th; Justin Bieber‘s manager, Scooter Braun, at 33; Madonna‘s manager, Guy Oseary, at 38; record exec and former X Factor judge L.A. Reid, at 56; The X Factor creator and judge Simon Cowell, at 58; and American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, at 62.
