Over the weekend, Benzino sustained non-fatal injuries after being shot allegedly by his nephew during a funeral procession in Duxbury, Massachusetts. On Monday, the rapper’s nephew, Gai Scott, appeared in court to plead not guilty on assault charges.
According to the Boston Globe, Scott’s attorney claims his client was trying to protect himself during the procession for the funeral of Benzino’s mother.
“When the dust settles, this case will be shown to be self-defense,” attorney Jon Ciraulo said. Scott, who is a licensed gun owner, was later charged with assault with intent to murder and has been ordered held without bail.
As previously reported, Scott allegedly fired several shots into a Dodge SUV being driven by Benzino, whose birth name is Raymond Scott, on Route 3 South in Duxbury on Saturday.
After being shot in the upper arm and back, the rapper has posted updates on his condition on Instagram, writing, “Feel much better, GOD IS REAL.”
