Fat Joe Begins Prison Sentence, Releases New Mixtape


Fat Joe has begun serving his four month sentence for tax evasion after turning himself into prison on Monday afternoon.

According to TMZ, the 43-year-old rapper — born Joseph Cartagena — is currently in custody inside the Federal Detention Center in Miami, Florida.

“FARE WELL MY PEOPLE I’M BOUT TO TAKE THAT RIDE SEE U AT DIDDY’S HOUSE FOR NEW YEARS,” tweeted Joe before heading to the prison. One supportive fan responded, “Stay strong and hold ya head,” while another wrote, “We will be waiting for you & some new club bangers when you get home!”

The rapper made sure to leave fans with new music. He issued his new mixtape,The Darkside 3, for free on Rap Radar. Led by the Action Bronson-assisted single “Your Honor,” the 10-track project includes production from DJ Premier, 9th Wonder and Cool & Dre.

As previously reported, Fat Joe pleaded guilty back in December for failing to pay taxes on more than $1 million in income from 2007 to 2010. In addition to the sentence, Joe must also pay a $15,000 fine and complete one year of supervised release.
