Credit: Matthew Jordan SmithDetroit has been hosting the early performance rounds of season 14 of American Idol, and now a Motown legend will pay a visit to the show to help guide the new crop of contestants. Billboard reports that Aretha Franklin will appear as a guest mentor on both episodes of the Fox singing competition next week.
The shows, which will air Wednesday and Thursday at 8 p.m. ET, appropriately will feature the hopefuls singing classic Motown tunes. The Queen of Soul also will be performing on the program, which is taking place at Detroit’s Fillmore Theater.
The coming week will see the top 16 American Idol contestants singing for a chance to be part of the final 12.
Franklin previously appeared on American Idol on the season 12 finale, during which she performed live via satellite.
