Last week, protestors announced plans to rally outside of the NFL headquarter in Manhattan following Beyonce‘s Black Panthers-inspired “Formation” performance during the Super Bowl 50 halftime show. However, it seems none of her detractors actually showed during the rally event this morning.
According to the Washington Post, the only people that appeared at the demonstration at 8 a.m. were police officers, media reporters, and Beyonce supporters, who were prepared to fend off an anti-Beyonce protest that never happened. One woman, who seemingly supported Beyonce’s message, was photographed holding a sign that reads: “Where y’all at?”
Deadspin previously speculated that the Beyonce protest was likely a prank, since the event was launched by an anonymous organizer on an Eventbrite page. In addition, the group later started calling itself “Proud of the Blues,” a pro-police group with very little social media presence leading up to the rally.
