Alicia Keys Honored with Fashion Award for Philanthropy

Michelangelo Di Battista/RCA RecordsAlicia Keys was recognized Friday night by the fashion industry for her philanthropic work .

Keys received the Inspiration Award at designer Diane Von Furtenberg’s fifth annual DVF gala at the United Nations in New York City. She was honored for her Keep a Child Alive organization which assists children and families living with AIDS in Africa and India. Last November Keys raised four million dollars at her Black Ball  event to benefit Keep a Child Alive.  

The Inspiration Award is given to “a woman who has demonstrated exceptional strength and is using her experience and influence to effect positive change.” Von Furstenberg created the DVF Awards to support “women who are using their resources, commitment and visibility to transform the lives of other women.”

Keys received a $50,000 donation to her Keep a Child charity.
