Photo by Desiree Navarro/WireImageIn a statement to Billboard, attorneys for 50 Cent confirm that he has filed a lawsuit against Rick Ross over Rozay’s use of the beat from 50’s 2003 smash “In Da Club.”
Ross did a remix on the beat for his recent #RenzelRemixes mixtape.
In the statement provided to Billboard, attorneys for 50 say that the suit is designed to protect their client’s “name and reputation.” “Our complaint alleges that Rick Ross has taken these without permission to advertize his own album, and violated 50 Cent’s rights in the process, and we believe he should be held liable,” Paul LiCalsi, partner and co-chair of the Entertainment and Media Litigation Group at Robins Kaplan LLP, said in the statement. Craig Weiner, partner at Robins Kaplan LLP, added, “We will use every legal tool available to remedy what we allege is an unauthorized use of 50 Cent’s name, identity, and trademark.”
The suit seeks $2 million, according to Billboard. Reps for Ross were not available for comment for the report.
