ABC/Fred LeeA jury last Friday decided 50 Cent owed a woman at least $5 million for leaking a sex tape of her online, but it may be a while before she collects. Monday, the rapper filed for bankruptcy.
As reported by The Wall Street Journal, 50 Cent — born Curtis James Jackson III — filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy a court in Hartford, Connecticut. The filing cites estimated assets and liabilities ranging from between $10 million to $50 million.
According to the New York Daily News, the New York City jury in a civil suit filed against 50 Cent by Lastonia Leviston decided Friday the rapper owned her at least $5 million in damages for posting a 13-minute sex video of her and a former boyfriend on his website in 2009, doctoring it and and referring to Leviston in derogatory language. Leviston’s attorney argued 50 Cent had used the video to increase his website traffic by using it to diss rapper Rick Ross, who fathered a daughter with Leviston.
50 Cent’s lawyers countered the former boyfriend gave the sex tape to their client, and told Jackson that Leviston was OK with it being posted.
